Cloud Computing

Cloud computing has become the industry buzz words; joining like: grid computing, utility computing, virtualization, clustering, etc. A relatively new computing paradigm, cloud computing is a conglomerate of connections, software, services that are linked together in a network. The word cloud has been rumored to have come from the use of the cloud image to represent the Internet, or a large networked environment. The network that holds these connections, services, software etc, creates a powerful or supercomputing processing experience. Using the cloud, a user with a laptop or Palm Treo can access the cloud for resources on demand anytime, and at unimaginable speeds. The network of servers that provides this mechanism is known as "the cloud."

Cloud computing is often used to sort through enormous amounts of data. In fact, Google has an initial edge in cloud computing precisely because of its need to produce instant, accurate results for millions of incoming search inquries every day, parsing through the terabytes of Internet data cached on its servers. Google's approach has been to design and manufacture hundreds of thousands of its own servers from commodity components, connecting relatively inexpensive processors in parallel to create an immensely powerful, scalable system. Google Apps, Maps and Gmail are all based in the cloud.

Cloud computing really is accessing resources and services needed to perform functions with dynamically changing needs. An application or service developer requests access from the cloud rather than a specific endpoint or named resource. What goes on in the cloud manages multiple infrastructures across multiple organizations and consists of one or more frameworks overlaid on top of the infrastructures tying them together. Frameworks provide mechanisms for:

  • self-healing
  • self monitoring
  • resource registration and discovery
  • service level agreement definitions
  • automatic reconfiguration

The cloud is a virtualization of resources that maintains and manages itself. There are of course people resources to keep hardware, operation systems and networking in proper order.

At Sahara Technology we provide the necessary guidance you need to reap the benefits of cloud computing. We study your situation and decide whether this is the best alternative for you.
